A New York State of Mind and Love Bug are 2 zines that Badrul Rupak has published with Corner Bodega. They size up around 5"x5.75"  (38 pages) and features classic and rare scenes around New York City.

"First and foremost, I'm a New Yorker. Professionally, I'm a digital product designer, but outside of work I love photography. I also have a love for typography that dates all the way back to the 90s when I was enamored by the NYC graffiti scene. Making things and finding creativity in the mundane is my passion."

Q: Tell us a little bit about your background?

A: This zine is an homage to the city of New York seen through the lens of someone obsessed with patterns, symmetry and geometry. It tries to break down a chaotic city to its most simplest forms, devoid of people — just objects and shapes. It's a little bit of Edward Hopper meets Wes Anderson somewhere in Downtown Manhattan.

Q: What was your method and approach for creating A New York State of Mind?

A: Initially I had shot everything in color, but converting everything to black and white and ensuring there was enough contrast for the first run, after seeing some samples and tweak the contrast we ended up with the final zine which really captures the beauty of that grainy film look.

Q: Tell us a bit about The Love Bug

A: This zine is a love letter to the ever-ubiquitous classic VW Beetle. It's such a purpose-built automobile that is very utilitarian in nature yet each one feels very unique at the same time. I love this duality of uniformity + individualism, so I've tried to capture that throughout my travels. They just have a soul to them.

Q: What was your approach for laying out the zine?

A: The most difficult part about shooting these classic VW Beetles is simply finding them. As time passes, they're becoming harder to track down and this rarity makes finding one all the more exciting to me.
